In November of 2010, my brother Bert Scholl’s marriage ended. In January of 2011, he lost his job. Unemployed and without sufficient income to get a place of his own, Bert, along with his four-year old son, rented a room from a friend until he could get back on his feet and find a place of their own where they could start over. Then in August of 2011, Bert was diagnosed with a cancer recurrence – Stage IV Rectal Cancer metastasized to the liver.
This is my brother Robert’s story. At least the latest chapter. Everybody has a bad day or a bad week, or even a bad year sometimes. And everybody is responsible for their own happiness and their own success. But sometimes circumstances are beyond what anyone could imagine. So we are asking for your help.
Fortunately, the single tumor was operable and the seven-month chemotherapy regimen looks promising. What isn’t promising is the bottom line when it comes to their finances. The reality is that his disability insurance provides a minimal income. And renting a “room from a friend,” even a good friend, simply doesn’t provide the peace & privacy he needs to navigate chemotherapy treatment and the unfortunate side-effects that come along with it. The reality is that my brother & his son are going to need $13,300 for the coming year to rent an apartment. Any financial contribution from you will help provide him the opportunity to heal in the peaceful environment we know he needs most.
If you’d like to help Bert, just click on the Paypal button on the left side of the page and you can make your contribution with a credit or debit card. You do not need a Paypal account to do so.
I know that many people love my brother as much as we do, and yet it’s so much harder to ask for and accept financial help, as opposed to other kinds of support.
Whatever you are able to contribute, no matter how big or small, is greatly appreciated, not only by Bert & his son, but by our family as well. Thank you for making a positive difference in all our lives.
With deep gratitude and appreciation to all of you,
- Vivienne
